Our Story

My Grandfather Maurice Hammond always had a dream of owning his own sawmill, he worked as a timber hauler and extractor for many years with his two sons Kenny hammond & Bill Hammond, My father Bill Hammond started with the purchase of this current site in 1980 and soon after luton Green sawmill was born now run by father and son Bill and Will Hammond

Both my father & I have many years hands on experience as sawyers and take pride in what we cut ourselves also we have built relationships with our suppliers to try and keep quality right at the top of our list.

We are qualified visual hardwood graders, grading to BS standard: 5756 and CATG (certification and timber grading registered) We can grade green oak and chestnut to THA, THB, TH1 and TH2 grades.

We do struggle sometimes to answer the phone within the same day as this is a father and son business, that is run hands-on by the both of us, so email is probably the best and quickest way of reaching us, with that said please contact us in whichever way you feel most comfortable and rest assured your call or email will be answered as soon as possible.

Please contact us if you have any questions or to discuss your requirements, we supply across Devon, Somerset and Dorset.

Where do we source our wood from?

We source our timber from the UK where possible but English Oak is not in great supply of late so most of our Oak comes from European countries mainly France and Germany where the timber is grown in vast forests which allows it to grow much taller and straighter it is also looked after throughout its life and has less knots. The trees we buy are cut down during the winter months while the sap is down this means the timber is drier and more stable.
